We are all living in a very different world these days and doing our best to stay healthy and protect the ones we love through this global pandemic. As the world begins turning slowly toward a restart from the storm of COVID19, schools and families must also begin wrestling with how to safely navigate the rough waters of school reopening. For many it could be fairly smooth sailing, but for many others, the stormy waves could easily overwhelm. We are truly not all in the same boat.
Assistance League of Denver has been supporting families facing challenges in the Denver area for more than sixty years, and while the challenges of this storm are unique, our resolve to extend a helping hand to those in need has never wavered. Recognizing that not everyone may have the necessary resources to equip their children for success in the new learning environments of school, we are launching a campaign to support the development of “Home Learning Kits.” These kits are designed with the advice of school personnel so that every child attending our two signature Assistance League of Denver Schools plus five additional Denver and Aurora Public Schools can have what they need to engage successfully in their schoolwork.
Your generous donation can help fill these Home Learning Kits with a variety of learning essentials. With the goal of providing a wide array of resources to support student learning, we have developed an extensive list of tools and supplies that teachers have requested to help their students be successful. Some of the items include basic supplies such as paper, pencils, and notebooks as well as more specialized use items such as dry erase white boards and markers, headphones, and art supplies. Eventually we would like to provide some support for technology and online learning such as ChromeBooks, internet access, and virtual English language classes for parents.
